In the more recent history of the Wild there may not have been a bigger impact than current Minnesota Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk. Remembering back to ringing in the new year of 2015, any hope that the Wild had of making the playoffs was quickly fading as they fell into a deep slump. This was not just a little funk as the Wild had only been able to muster 5 wins during a long 20 game stretch, through their annual December strive to survive and carrying over into the new year.
Enter the Dube. On January 15, 2015, a move was made that would have the Wild seeing their 4th goaltender of the year in as many months. Dubnyk suited up for the Wild immediately and shutout the Buffalo Sabers to put an end to the slump of the decade. The Wild went on that season to clinch a playoff spot eventually being swept by the Chicago Blackhawks who went on to win the Stanley Cup.
Dubnyk’s performance in goal has been solid as he has racked up 59 wins thus far with the Wild. Though his career with the Wild is hopefully far from over he has already helped in making some of the greatest memories in team history. Moving on to the Boudreau era, the goaltender position is one less thing that we will need to worry about.
